How to Revamp Your Skincare Routine For 2018!

When you think about your Skincare Routine you think Cleansing, Moisturizing, and Repeat. Give your routine a face-lift this New Year by adding a couple of these tips and tricks; whether it is adding a new Glycolic Serum, a new Cleansing tool or even an SPF for preventing those future age spots. Don’t let the hustle and bustle of the new year get you in a rut with your basic skincare routine, use this foolproof step by step guide and your skin back on track!

Trust me, your skin will thank you and be glowing from ear to ear!

Cleansers:

Start with the Cleanser. Cleansers should be able to take off your makeup, remove any environmental debris, and basically solve all of your life’s troubles. Here’s a Tip, if you wash your face twice you’re more likely to get your makeup off the first time and then the second time the cleanser actually can clean your face and really deep clean and do its job. That’s why most users give up when starting out with a new cleanser because

1) they are detoxing for the first 2-3 weeks and

2) they aren’t washing it for long enough or

3)They’re not repeating the wash for the cleanser to penetrate through their makeup!

Here are some types of cleansers that I would recommend to choose from; the more natural ones like Eminence’s Eucalyptus Cleansing Concentrate to a more Medical Grade like Obagi C-Cleansing Gel.

Exfoliation:

The Second Step is Exfoliation. Although you should only exfoliate 3-4 times a week, you should always do research on the type of exfoliator that you are going to be using. Exfoliation is the step that cleans out your pores by removing your dead skin cells.

You can either use a mask, wash/scrub or tool to exfoliate your skin. A great exfoliating mask to use would be either Aveda’s Botanical Kinetics Radiant Skin Refiner or Eminence’s Pear and Poppy Seed Microderm Polisher.

A Wash or Scrub would be Eminence’s Citrus Exfoliating Wash, a citrus wash which cleans normal to oily skin. Or Image Skincare’s ILUMA Brightening Exfoliating Powder, which polishes, buffs and smooths uneven skin textures.

Lastly, a great tool that has become very popular as of late for exfoliation is the Clarisonic Mia Facial Cleansing Brush, that is a one-speed cleansing brush that is gentle on skin. The only thing about the Clarisonic is that users often forget to change out or clean the brush heads, which causes the brush to carry more bacteria. So if you are going to go the route of an exfoliating tool, make sure to change out the disposable brush as recommended or cleaning the brush head thoroughly every time you use it.

Serum:

This Third Step is often forgotten about! Although people think ‘Oh it’s just a serum’ the serum is actually a highly concentrated hydrator that is soaked into the skin and gives your skin that boost of greatness. Basically, it is like a wheatgrass shot for your face! It’s also great for oily skin.

There are some amazing Serums out there for you to use, like the Eminence Eight Greens Youth Serum, Drunk Elephant’s T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum and Malin + Goetz Replenishing Face Serum.

Eyes:

{Eye} See you, and every crows foot and every wrinkle around it! No one likes those birds, and the best way to get rid of them is to get a great eye crème! I’ll let you in on a little secret about Eye Crème, if you put it in the fridge before you use it, it works better.

The cold mixed with the oils in the crème makes it more penetrating when you put it under your eyes. Yes, the first few times you are going to be saying “this girl is nuts” but just wait and feel (and see) the magic! The Drunk Elephant’s Shaba Complex Eye Serum is great for your eyes, so is Eminence’s Lavender Age Corrective Night Eye Crème. Try it out, you’re going to thank me later!

Moisturizer/Crèmes:

And for the Finale! Well at least for the PM, Moisturizer should be used for your nighttime routine mostly. This is like your drink of water for your skin. Your mother always told you to ‘Put moisturizer on because it prevents wrinkles’ and ‘DON’T forget your neck’! Well, all of that, plus always apply in circular motions with your ring and middle fingers and in an upward motion, NEVER DOWNWARD.

Moisturizer can be a great base or primer for your makeup but be careful on how much is applied, too much can make your foundation slip right off.

The difference between a Moisturizer and a Crème is that a Moisturizer is water based and a Crème is oil based. Some of the most first-class moisturizers and crèmes that I have found are Image Skincare’s The Max Stem Cell Crème and Malin + Goetz Vitamin E Face Moisturizer.

SPF:

No one wants age spots in their early thirties! Put the dang SPF on! NO ONE is going to know if it’s under your makeup or in your makeup, no one watches you put on your makeup in the morning, just put it on. BB Crème has SPF in it, Giorgio Armani has SPF in it, Bare Minerals has SPF in it, everything has SPF in it, just wear it!

The only exception to not wearing SPF is if you are going to be photographed where there will be a flash, then yes do not wear it, Zink Oxide gives you flashback which makes all those brides and high school prom queens look like they have white powder caked under their eyes. Protect your Money Maker!

Use this guide to stay on track this New Year, and give your routine that extra jump start. Everyone will be noticing when your skin is glowing and you have that extra boost of confidence!

Cheers,

Alex.
