Rewarding yourself can be difficult when you’re a busy person. Sometimes there’s no time to stop. For me, I’ve been studying for an essential exam (for my career) where I’ve been trying to find ways to make the study process a little more enjoyable to keep myself sane and motivated. When I study I need to celebrate small milestones. To reward/celebrate the little wins and the small milestones. I thought this idea was SO satisfying because it never crossed my mind and seemed really easy to do.
I have worked non-stop to meet deadlines. By not rewarding myself for the little wins, I was letting myself run on empty because I got used to pushing past my apparent feelings of tiredness and stress. In those times I really needed something like a reward to motivate me so I could pursue the next item on my to-do list feeling upbeat and happy.
I’ve realized that I could benefit from activities that I find fun/creative, they would help relieve my built up stress. Something fun I’ve wanted to do is bake new recipes or do DIY projects I’ve pinned on Pinterest. I think there’s no better way to relieve stress than to do a fun simple activity. And yes, I find baking fun and simple (smiley).
I also realize that I should probably reward myself with items and activities I’ve put on the back burner. This way I have something to look forward to when I’m doing a task that is not so exciting. I’ve started making a list of things I’ve always wanted to do (big and small). One item from my list is to read a chapter of a book that I haven’t been able to finish because I’ve had no time to blissfully read. But now I do!
Another item that I haven’t been able to pull off lately is creating a new playlist from a list I’ve been curating on my phone. I’ve been adding to this list for a year and half now and I’ve been itching to make this list a reality.
I reward myself with something I’ve always wanted to do. I can work through banal tasks because I am excited for what I have planned.
So how are you going to reward yourself? How about with the things you’ve been putting off for weeks and months? How about you reward yourself with things that make you happy?
I hope this post gets you thinking. Make a “reward yourself” list and get excited about life again!
