admitted herself to rehab. At the most recent American Music awards, she gave an acceptance speech. In the speech, she points in her acceptance speech that taking time out meant taking care of herself. She says “I had to stop. ‘Cause I had everything, and I was absolutely broken inside. And I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”

This speech is a reminder of slowing down. Especially when we try to be everything to everyone. Sometimes it’s necessary to step away to collect yourself. Selena Gomez may have had people around her, like her parents or manager, who enforced this break. But the fact is, she recognized the need for it and took it.

Selena might be heavily involved with her singing career and many side jobs.  But we can all identify with the concept of being pulled in many directions. Sometimes to prove ourselves. We want to please the people around us.  Also, to push ourselves to be better. But as a result, we put our bodies, minds, and emotions through so much unneeded stress.

I’m a planner, so when it comes to planning events or get together’s I usually overextend myself. Usually deceiving myself into thinking I can take on the load.  Trying to do everything in a limited.  The pressure can feel like a nightmare at times. I’m sure many of you can relate.

What this means for the rest of us…

It’s important prioritizing time for the important things that are important to you. Especially they make you happy. I know I’m happy when I’m expressing myself in a creative way. I could be designing on my computer, sketching. Just doing what I want to do. Not trying to meet the needs of many people all at once.

Making you a priority. We don’t have to fall to the pressures of people around us.

Like Selena Gomez, we can turn the mic off and call time out. Maybe once a week or once a month we take some time out for self-care. So, book a message. Get a facial. Cancel dinner plans in favour of a bath. Spend an hour or two reading an uplifting book. Just take care of yourselves.
